Fireworks News - Industry Update

May 14, 2021

The price of importing fireworks from China has gone up….again.

Recently, our fireworks suppliers have informed us that a GRI (general rate increase) of $2800 per container will apply for any shipment departing China for the West Coast after May 15th. The GRI for East Coast ports is $3200. This new GRI is in addition to the $5800 fee we informed you about in December and the $3600 fee we discussed in February. All together we have increases in fees over $12,000 per container in addition to standard freight charges – all in less than 8 months.

While this is certainly not news any of us wanted to hear, we feel that it is our responsibility to pass this information along. Notwithstanding the less than stellar news, at each stage of the freight increases we have made an effort to inform our customers and give you a chance to purchase current inventory before new, higher-priced inventory has arrived. We will continue that trend with this latest news on the new GRI increase.

ITEMS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN STOCK WILL REMAIN AT THEIR EXISTING PRICE THROUGH JULY 4th.

We recommend that if you have not made your full fireworks purchase for the season that  you do so immediately. While we do have stock in our warehouse and more products on the way from China, those items are selling fast. We are still anticipating major shortages in the fireworks industry this year.
